Healthcare & Pharmaceuticals becomes the group's fifth core sector

Following the Gypto Alqalaa Pharma joint venture in Egypt, the group has formalised pharmaceutical manufacturing as a standalone core sector alongside infrastructure, industry, technology and essential services.

Al Qalaa International Group has elevated Healthcare & Pharmaceuticals to a standalone core sector, bringing the group's platform to five operating pillars. The decision reflects the scale of the group's manufacturing position in Egypt and the strategic weight that medicine supply now carries across the region.

The sector consolidates four capability lines: manufacturing of essential medicines, sterile and non-sterile production, specialised high-technology therapies spanning biosimilars, oncology and vaccines, and technology transfer with multinational partners. Together these lines represent an annual capacity of 280 million units and close to 75 commercialised products.

Healthcare had previously been managed within the group's Sustainability & Essentials portfolio. Separating it recognises that pharmaceutical manufacturing demands a distinct governance model — one built around regulatory compliance, cGMP quality systems and capital cycles measured in years rather than quarters.

The group intends to grow the sector through both organic capacity expansion and further partnerships with multinational originators seeking a regional manufacturing base.
